Ultimately, spontaneous generation was disproved by French Chemist Louis Pasteur in the 1859 as an experiment for a contest at the French Academy of the Sciences. His experiments were variants of the experiments done by Lazzaro Spallanzi and John
Needham, an English Clergyman. The academy had sponsored a contest to see if anyone could disprove the theory, and Louis Pasteur's experiment did so and in turn, he one the contest.
Although they were not the sole minds of the disbanding of the theory, it could be argued that neither was Louis Pasteur because they paved the way for his experiment.
